Family Day at the Maritime Makerspace! You are invited to build an ‘ROV in a Box’ kit and practice piloting the vehicle in the sanctuary’s makerspace indoor tank! ATTENTION 5th GRADE STUDENTS: If you have fun building the ‘ROV in a Box’ find out how to form a scout level team at your school for the annual Great Lakes Regional MATE ROV competition in Alpena. A number of loaner starter ROV kits are available for elementary schools to get you started! Parent coaches needed! Check out a kit and schedule practice time in the sanctuary makerspace. Questions? Kick off your holiday season at the opening reception of the Season of Light exhibit. Spend an evening with friends surrounded by beautiful Christmas decorations, music, refreshments, and good cheer. Tickets are $15 per person and includes admission, a planetarium show and a chance to win a beautiful door prize. There will be a cash bar. To purchase tickets for the Saturday, November 18th Season of Light Gala call or stop by the museum. Christmas is just around the corner! The Besser Museum will start to ‘deck the halls’ for the Season of Light Christmas exhibit the last week of October. Volunteers are always needed to help quickly transform the museum into a winter wonderland filled with a variety of Christmas trees, villages and vignettes. Volunteer artists, DeLynn Medina and Marilyn Thom have already started creating a little Christmas Mischief. The two are sketching out lots of gnomes for parts of this year’s exhibit. The Christmas gnome is well-known throughout Europe and in Scandinavian cultures. These mischievous characters are sure to delight visitors young and old.
