In Room BTC 122. In this unique opportunity you can make and take home a project of your own with instruction and guidance of instructor Joe Garant, of NEMROC. Pollination is a fascinating natural phenomenon; an essential ecological function. Without pollinators, Earth’s terrestrial ecosystems would not survive. Over 80% of flowering plants require a pollinator to reproduce. Animals that assist plant reproduction as pollinators include bats, butterflies, moths, flies, birds, beetles, ants, and bees. Around the world, as in NE Michigan, pollinators are declining due to threats to biodiversity. Principal reasons for loss of habitat are pesticides, pollution, and invasive species. Joe teaches this hands-on workshop to help you make a significant, positive change in environmental quality of your property and community. Be an advocate for pollinators; make your property a National Wildlife Federation certified habitat; discover remarkable things happening at NEMROC and bring home your own Butterfly/Bee house OR Bat House. Cost is $25. Contact the Volunteer Center to register, 989-358-7271 or go to www.alpenavolunteercenter.org.
