A documentary film on the Calcite Limestone Quarry in Rogers City has won an Emmy Award.

Brian Belanger wrote and directed the film “A Century in Stone” and earned an Emmy this past Saturday in Detroit, in the Best Writer – Program category.

The film commemorates 100 years of quarry operations at the Calcite Plant and the men and women who made it possible.

“Frankly, I did not expect to get this award,” said Belanger, “so I was stunned to hear the emcee announce the name of the film.  I got up on stage in a daze, but at least I had the presence of mind to name and thank everyone who worked on the film.”

That list includes Brian’s sister, Anne Belanger, who is program director at the Presque Isle District Library.

A Century in Stone premiered in July 2012 at the Rogers City Theater and is now available on DVD at the library.
