October brings us the season of colors, sounds, feelings, candy, bumps in the night, and all things Halloween! So gather your costumes and prepare your bellies for these fun, must-see October themed events happening soon– 

Scarecrow Village The RidgeOctober 20th & 27th only, from 7-11pm. Two haunted attractions in one await you at what was once Maple Ridge School, The Haunted Ridge and The Labyrinth. Dare to try both? Haunts are $8 a per attraction OR $13 for both, a discount that’ll pay for the stiff drink you may need after! That is…if you make it out alive…*insert maniacal laughter here* 7065 Dietz Rd., Alpena. 

7th Annual Halloween Egg HuntOctober 20th, from 11-11:30am. Another “double header” this year at Knaebe’s and Twisted Roots! Stick around after the Mmmunchy Krunchy Mile and Twisted Roots 5k, and join in for an afternoon of Halloween fun. Dig into the pumpkin/weed patch to find thousands of treat-filled Halloween-themed eggs ($1/child 2-11 years). The egg hunt starts at “eggs-actly” 11am in the pumpkin graveyard…so don’t be late, the treat-filled eggs go fast! Costumes are optional. 2621 S. Karsten Rd., Rogers City  

Alpena Escape Rooms: Haunted Escape AdventureOctober 19th. This event is a combination of a haunted house and Escape Rooms. Clues will guide you from one room to the next along with a haunted vibe to satisfy your Halloween craving. The last clue will lead you to the final adventure, a haunted maze! (All groups will receive a goodie bag containing coupons to come back and play the actual Escape Rooms). Downtown Trick or TreatingOctober 26th, from 5:30-7:30 pm. It’s time for the annual Downtown Alpena trick or treating event again! Downtown stores will be passing out candy from approximately 5:30- 7:30 pm, and Trunk or Treat will be happening in the parking lot behind City Hall from 5:30 p.m.- 7 p.m. Come in costume and enjoy our festive downtown. Free and open to kids of all ages. Downtown  Alpena 

Trick or Treat at the SanctuaryOctober 26th, from 5-8pm. Head to the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center for Halloween fun! Come in costume and navigate the haunted house, play fun games, and build crafts with the Home Depot! This event is for all ages, free, and is part of Michigan State Police/Downtown Alpena’s Trunk or Treat. 500 W. Fletcher St., Alpena 

The Running DeadOctober 26th, from 6:30-7:30pm. Maybe you watch the Walking Dead. Maybe you consider yourself a “zombie expert”. Maybe you have read all the zombie survival guides by Max Brooks. Are you ready to see if you have what it takes in real time? Complete Performance Locker’s annual Running Dead for the ultimate test to see if you have what it takes! Your mission: make it through the post-apocalyptic landscape without becoming infected. This challenge is open to living walkers and runners, but be warned, this strain of infection leaves some zombies the urge to … RUN! 5th Annual Zombie CrawlOctober 27th, from 6-9:30pm. The 5th annual Zombie Crawl is FREE and will start at the Nucleus Lounge in downtown Alpena. Participants will receive scavenger hunt materials and set free to all participating locations around Alpena. Hunt and record zombies, photograph certain spooky phenomenon, as well as find other haunting materials to bring back to The Fresh Palate to score points. A hay wagon ride will be available to all participating locations for your convenience. Enter with a team of up to 4 people for a chance to win prizes. Prizes will be given to the top team.
