Fallen Soldier Memorial Monument (2009)
When a serviceman or woman is lost in the battlefield, it is customary to arrange their boots, rifle, and helmet. The surviving members of their squad gather around and memorialize their fallen comrades. Richard Rist recreated the same ceremonial arrangement for the Fallen Hero sculpture. He wanted to create a monument that made you stop and think for a minute about the real cost of war; a fitting and dignified tribute to our troops and a memorial that will keep their memory alive in a permanent way. In honor of Chief Petty Officer Paul Darga, US Navy, and Sgt. Allen Greka, US Army.
