In summer we ditch our vehicles in exchange for pedals and paddles because this is Alpena, and there is no better way to see our Sanctuary of the Great Lakes than by bike, canoe, SUP, or kayak!

One of the best ways to pedal or paddle your way around town is by connecting with Alpena Pedal & Paddle Rentals by Performance Locker. Located at Duck Park (at the corner of US-23 N/Chisholm St. and Long Rapids Rd.), Alpena Pedal & Paddle will hook you up with your next land or water adventure.

Kayaks, canoes, and standup paddleboards (SUPs) are available to rent on-site at Duck Park. You’ll be able to launch in the Thunder Bay River and paddle the serene waters of Alpena’s 500-acre Wildlife Sanctuary. Swans, mallard ducks, Canadian geese, great egrets, and great blue herons are just a few of the wild waterfowl you may see on your paddle. You can find a complete list of wildlife by clicking here.

Ladies cruisers

If land is more your style, ride Alpena’s 18.5-mile city Bi-Path with a cruiser. This is a fantastic way to explore the city of Alpena and take in the sights of not only the Wildlife Sanctuary at Duck Park, but also the vibes in downtown Alpena, the view of Lake Huron at the boat harbor, and multiple scenic city parks along the way.

Alpena Pedal & Paddle is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Walk-up rentals are always welcome and off-site and extended rental can also be arranged. Reservations are encouraged. Safety gear is provided.
