Pablo Picasso was once quoted as saying, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he (she) grows up.”
This powerful quote embodies what Art in the Loft is all about in our community. Welcoming anyone and everyone of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to bring out the inner artist that lives in all of us.
Over the past 19 years, Art in the Loft has grown to be a significant asset to the community. Workshops like Corkscrews and Canvas for adults to cookie baking for all ages to smART, the Saturday morning staple for kiddos. During smART (Saturday morning art) kids are given an art theme to complete and the rest is up to their big imaginations. If you have noticed the pictures on Art in the Loft’s Facebook page, then you’ve seen the adorableness of downtown on Saturday mornings. The loft is also utilized for special events like fundraisers, community workshops and weddings.
Art in the Loft is important to the Alpena community. Beautifying our buildings (3D fish mural), expanding our minds and creativity, and providing a space for local and regional artists to display and sell their artwork are just a few of many ways Art in the Loft is impacting the Alpena area. As part of their mission to make art available for everyone who wants to create, scholarships are awarded to those who apply and qualify. More info on scholarships can be found on their website.
It’s giving season!
It also that time of year to give the gift of giving to organizations near and dear to your heart. This year Art in the Loft, along with 59 other non-profits, has teamed up with the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan for Giving Tuesday, December 3rd. When you click the link on CFNM’s website for Giving Tuesday consider giving big or small to the charities that rely on community support from people like you. As a bonus for your generosity, Art in the Loft Director Justin Christensen-Cooper himself will be making each donor their very own mini painting! #giveartgetart
