It’s Spring Break in your Sanctuary of the Great Lakes—and if you’re spending it in Alpena, you’re in luck. We’ve rounded up some fun, family-friendly ways to keep the kids entertained (and maybe even burn off a little of that extra energy) while they’re off from school!

  1. Join a class at Art in the Loft

  2. Catch a movie at Sanctuary Cinema

    • Pick your seat in advance on Sanctuary Cinema’s website so you never have to settle for the back row (or the very front row) again! This week, the cinema is featuring Project Hail Mary, Hoppers, and Reminders of Him. On April 1st, Super Mario Galaxy Movie will replace Reminders of Him.

  3. Go fossil hunting at Rockport State Recreation Area

  4.  Book a flight with Huron Aviation Tours

    • Aerial winter views with Huron Aviation Services

      Give them something to brag about when they go back to school with an aerial tour of Alpena! This tour offers picturesque views of Lake Huron, the Presque Isle Lighthouses, shipwrecks, and more, depending on which tour you pick.

  5. Have a sweet treat at Connie’s Cafe

    • What kid doesn’t want a giant cinnamon roll the size of their head?! Now offering daily specials in all different flavors of cinnamon rolls such as Biscoff, Reeses, and Animal Cookies. Check out their Facebook page to see the daily specials.

  6. Visit the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center at NOAA

    • The Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center is offering special Spring Break programming entertainment March 30 – April 3. Activities include a museum scavenger hunt, movie days, special meet & greets, and so much more!   7. Play with the shelter animals

  8. Watch a planetarium show at the Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan

    • Northeast Michigan’s only 30-foot full dome planetarium experience! Immerse yourself in educational and entertaining star talks on Fridays and Saturdays with showings at 12 pm, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm.

  9. Attend an event at the George N. Fletcher Alpena County Public Library

    • There is an event to attend at the Alpena County Public Library every day of Spring Break, such as Tinker Tuesday, Weekly Storytime, and Pokemon Club. Find the complete list on the calendar here – https://alpenalibrary.org/events/list/

  10. Go fishing

    • Fishing is what we’re all about here in Alpena! We have plenty of water resources such as Lake Huron, the Thunder Bay River, Long Lake, Grand Lake, and Fletcher Pond. Stop by Clem’s Bait & Tackle for your fishing needs and don’t forget the license! If fishing isn’t in the cards for this week, then swap it out for walking the Mural Trail in downtown Alpena.
